Published estimates of single-family-office assets range from about $3.1 trillion to at least $4.67 trillion. The higher figure comes from fewer offices. Family-office assets are rarely disclosed, so every estimate rests on its own dataset and method, and each is best read on its own terms.
What do the main estimates say?
Deloitte Private's 2024 Global Edition estimated 8,030 single-family offices worldwide, holding $3.1 trillion in assets under management. [1]
With Intelligence's May 2025 analysis attributed at least $4.67 trillion to the 3,019 single-family offices in its January 2025 dataset. It describes the figure as a lower bound that will rise as further offices are identified. [2]

Why do the estimates differ?
The higher total comes from fewer offices, which points to differences in coverage and method rather than growth. With Intelligence notes that family-office AUM is rarely disclosed. It estimates a range for each office from market knowledge and evidence of its investments, and it generally does not separate direct investments. [2]
Neither estimate is a census. Combining them into a growth series, for example from $3.1 trillion to $4.67 trillion, would compare unlike figures.
What does the 2030 forecast say?
Deloitte expects single-family-office AUM to rise 73%, from $3.1 trillion to $5.4 trillion by 2030. That is Deloitte's forecast. It rests on Deloitte's own base, so it should be read alongside that base rather than against another provider's current figure. [1]
How do the estimates relate to strategy allocations?
Asset totals do not show how the money is invested. Citi Wealth's 2026/27 Global Family Office Report puts hedge funds at 4% of the reported global allocation and does not report a managed-futures category. Its allocation question excludes concentrated positions, so its base differs from either estimate above. [3]
Small portfolio weights still matter at this scale. On a $4.67 trillion base, each 0.1 percentage point corresponds to about $4.7 billion.

How does the family-office base compare with pension assets?
The Thinking Ahead Institute and Pensions & Investments put the assets of the world's 300 largest pension funds at $27.694 trillion. Pension funds and family offices differ in liabilities, governance and reporting, so their figures stay separate. [4]
Our comparison of pension-fund and family-office allocation covers those differences.
What do the estimates not show?
The figures describe estimated asset pools at stated dates. They do not show allocations to individual strategies, the share of assets held in each region or how much capital is available for new managers. [1-3]
Gnosis introduces institutional allocators to investment managers regulated in their home jurisdiction and evaluates those managers through Allocator IQ (AIQ). It does not advise on allocations, manage assets, hold custody or execute orders. Browse the manager universe.
